THREE PLACES TO SWAP THIS SUMMER TO SAVE MONEY AND AVOID CROWDS

Summer is the perfect time to explore new destinations, but popular spots can be crowded and expensive. Here are three alternatives that offer the same beauty and cultural richness without the hassle:

SWAP POSITANO AND AMALFI FOR RAVELLO AND SORRENTO

The Amalfi Coast is a stunning stretch of coastline located in the Campania region of southern Italy, along the southern edge of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, picturesque coastal villages, and clear blue waters. Famous towns on the Amalfi Coast include Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Sorrento. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its natural beauty, charming architecture, and cultural significance. Visitors are drawn to its scenic landscapes, historical sites, and vibrant local culture.

Positano and Amalfi are the two most popular cities on the coast, thus more people and higher prices in peak season. Peak season is from mid June to early September. If this is your desired times to go, I recommend swapping Positano and Amalfi for Ravello and Sorrento.

Why?

Tranquility and Less Crowding

  • Positano and Amalfi: Stunning but often crowded, especially during peak seasons, leading to congestion and long waits.

  • Ravello and Sorrento: Quieter, offering a more peaceful experience. Ravello is known for its tranquil ambiance, while Sorrento provides stunning views of the Bay of Naples.

Stunning Views and Gardens

  • Ravello: Famous for its breathtaking views and beautiful gardens, such as Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo.

  • Sorrento: Offers dramatic views of Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.

Cultural and Historical Significance

  • Ravello: Hosts the renowned Ravello Festival and boasts rich cultural heritage with its ancient villas and churches.

  • Sorrento: Steeped in history with landmarks like the Chiesa di San Francesco and a rich tradition in craftsmanship.

Accessibility and Convenience

  • Sorrento: A major transportation hub, easily accessible by train, ferry, and car, making it convenient for exploring nearby attractions.

  • Ravello: Provides a serene retreat away from the main coastal road but is still easily accessible.

Authentic Local Experience

  • Ravello and Sorrento: Offer a more authentic Italian experience with local markets, traditional crafts, and regional cuisine.

Variety of Activities

  • Ravello: Ideal for leisurely activities like exploring gardens and attending cultural festivals.

  • Sorrento: Offers boat tours, hiking, visiting archaeological sites like Pompeii, and day trips to Capri.

Value for Money

  • Cost: More affordable accommodation, dining, and activities compared to Positano and Amalfi.

  • Experiences: Rich and often less commercialized experiences at reasonable prices.

Unique Charm

  • Ravello: Known for its artistic atmosphere, attracting writers and artists.

  • Sorrento: Blends natural beauty with vibrant local life, offering a welcoming atmosphere.

Choosing Ravello and Sorrento over Positano and Amalfi can offer a more relaxed, culturally rich, and authentic Italian experience, making these towns excellent alternatives for travelers seeking a different perspective of the Amalfi Coast.

SWAP Mykonos and Santorini FOR Rhodes and Paros

People love Santorini and Mykonos for their unique charm and vibrant atmospheres. Santorini is famous for its breathtaking sunsets, stunning caldera views, and iconic white-washed buildings with blue domes. Its volcanic beaches and romantic ambiance make it a top destination for honeymooners and photographers. Mykonos, on the other hand, is renowned for its lively nightlife, upscale beach clubs, and cosmopolitan vibe. The island's picturesque streets, luxury shopping, and excellent dining options attract those seeking both relaxation and entertainment. Both islands offer a blend of natural beauty, culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Peak Season is Mid June to early September. While these cities are beautiful, if you are trying to have a more relaxing experience in the Greek Isles, give Paros and Rhodes a try.
